"Big Mind Big Heart" with Diane Hamilton
May 8–9, 2009
WHAT IS BIG MIND BIG HEART?
Big Mind Big Heart is the name given, by American Zen Master Dennis Genpo Merzel, Roshi, to a special new way to discover, experience and appreciate your life. It's also a good way of working out the kinks, the stuck places, and the unhealthy patterns that keep us down. Life is complex, and the inner self is an exquisite network of the psychological and the spiritual. Understanding it well leads to a better life.
The Big Mind Big Heart approach to life is a method of self-investigation that is straightforward and effective, and it will open your heart and mind to the fullness and richness of life. It's a new combination of tools, a blend of Western psychology and the Eastern traditions passed on to us, and it's been developed for the express purpose of helping us to better understand the mind and the nature of human life.
You won't need previous experience. Big Mind Big Heart workshops and retreats are lively, engaging, thoughtful and profound. Everyone gets to have their say, as we try on intriguing new perspectives, see what they tell us, and share our insights. Diane Hamilton leads the process with humor, wisdom, compassion and deep sincerity.
WHY SHOULD I TRY THE BIG MIND BIG HEART APPROACH?
We all have questions about the meaning and purpose of our lives and about how to get the most out of life. The Big Mind Big Heart approach will show you how to answer these questions for yourself, for what's true in your own unique and special life. Big Mind Big Heart is not someone else's interpretation of who you should be and how you should live but rather a way you can come to your own deep understanding and directly experience your life, your relationships and the world at large.
Big Mind Big Heart is non denominational. It doesn't matter if you're a Christian, Jew, Muslim or Atheist, you will benefit from the wisdom and insights of Zen and you will be able to immediately apply it to your own life. Big Mind Big Heart is easy to learn and use right away. You don't have to join a group or be a member of anything.
Learning the Big Mind Big Heart approach live with Diane Hamilton is fun, exciting and profound. You'll probably laugh, you might shed a tear. But, either way, you'll come out of it with a deep sense of appreciation for yourself and others, and a new, richer, more enlightened view of life.

WHO IS DIANE HAMILTON?
Diane Musho Hamilton Sensei is a Zen priest and Zen teacher. She is the dharma successor of Genpo Roshi, and is his first successor in the Big Mind lineage.
She began her dharma study at Naropa Institute in 1983 with Choygam Trungpa Rinpoche, and became a Zen student of Roshi's in 1997. In 2003, she received ordination as a Zen monk with her husband, Michael Zimmerman, and dharma transmission from Roshi in the spring of 2006. She is also a lead trainer for the Integral Life Practice seminars at Ken Wilber's Integral Institute.
For her, Zen practice is a fundamental commitment to experiencing reality as it is beautiful, ungraspable and seamless, nothing other than your own life. It is also a practice in fearlessness, in compassion, and in seeing the wisdom in all situations and greeting them with a joyous mind.
Diane Musho Hamilton is a gifted facilitator, mediator and spiritual teacher living in Utah. She is well known as an innovator in facilitating group dialogues, especially controversial conversations about religion, race and gender relations.
Diane also teaches Integral Spirituality, and has worked with Ken Wilber and the Integral Institute in Denver, Colorado, since 2004. She lives in Salt Lake City with her husband, Michael D. Zimmerman, a lawyer and Zen teacher. They have four grown children and one dog.
